The Ego Is an Expensive Employee

Our attachment to being right is a tax we pay daily — in money, in relationships, in time.

Ego rarely announces itself. It arrives quietly, as certainty — the small refusal to update a view, the extra size added to prove a point, the argument you win at the cost of the relationship.

The trader who cannot admit a loss doubles it. The founder who cannot hear a hard truth watches good people leave. The friend who must be right loses the friendship. In every case, the cost of protecting the self exceeds the cost of updating it.

Humility is not weakness. It is the cheapest employee you will ever hire.
